Hooray! It's done! - The Patting-Ourselves-On-The-Back Thread

edited June 2011 in Do The Work
At the old joint we had a thread for posting when we finish a project, story, issue, etc.  Time to start one here.  (Especially since I have a script I need to wrap up and I could use the inspiration.)<div><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3070/5822758050_be1aa0e4df.jpg"></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">I got my comp of the TRANSMETROPOLITAN: ALL OVER THE WORLD charity art book. It hasn't been widely publicized, but the book's also got pieces of short fiction by people like Kieron Gillen, Matthew Sturges, Brandon Jerwa — and me. Mine is the sixth and final text piece in the book.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">It's pretty amazing to finally see it.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br></div><div style="text-align: left;">So. Who else?</div>

  • Nice - I didn't know you had a piece in there. I should be getting a copy soon as well, I hope!<br>
  • @pjperez, I don't believe they ever promoted the fiction component in the lead-up to the book — so I don't think many people knew. And I haven't talked it up much because I've been in major tunnel-vision mode to get <i>Witch Doctor</i> on its feet.
  • They sure didn't, only the art. Pleasant surprise.<br>
  • I just got my didn't-contribute-nothing-but-money copy, and it's one slick book. Now to go hunting thru it...
  • Also, today I turned a script in.  That felt good.  That script had been bothering me for a long time.
  • Just got my copy of the Transmet art book as well, and it's lovely indeed. Look forward to actually opening it. :)<br>
  • Is this thread for anything that's been turned in to editors, artists, etc? Or is on its way to the printer/soon-to-be published?
  • @RyanBurton ; I don't think there's a hard rule, except when you feel that you are finished.<br>
  • Thanks makes sense, Marvin. I just received 24 colored pages of a creator-owned I'm hoping to pitch soon. There's a lot of outfits out there that don't require lettering when the pitch is sent, but I feel having it is a nicer package.<div><br></div><div>Still, <a href="http://flic.kr/p/9TYT3w">with art like this</a>, I feel something major has been accomplished. (I would embed the image in the post, but I'm having difficulty...if someone can point out how, I'd appreciate it.)</div>
  • Just finished painting the last page of the first chapter ("Blood Will Out") of Totem, the book I'm writing/drawing/painting. It took a lot longer to wrap up than I expected, but I learned a lot in the process (and also stopped in the middle to do some extensive rewriting). Giant sigh of relief. Anyway, there are still some bits left. I need to letter it, set up a feedback session, possibly do a cover, and then resubmit it to the editors I've been working with. But the lion's share of the work is done. And I'm very happy with the results.
  • @RyanBurton, yeah, this thread is for anything that gets done, whether it's been published or not.<div><br></div><div>@TonyMorgan — Awesome!  I'm looking forward to seeing it.</div><div><br></div><div>(But I've been meaning to mention — I'm really underwhelmed by the name "Totem".  I thought "Blood Will Out" was a great title, but "Totem"... it just kind of there.  It doesn't tell me what the book is about, and it's not very atmospheric or exciting in and of itself.  My two cents?  I think you can do better.)</div>
  • Bomb Queen Special = art is done.  Finally!
  • WOOHOO!  Now get some sleep; you're starting to look tired.<br>
  • <b>Isaac & Lee #4</b> finally back from printers as well as<div><b>Isaac & Lee: The Collected Works</b> (the tradepaperback)<div>Finished the pencils for <b>Isaac & Lee #5</b></div></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>That's about it for now.</div><div><br></div>
  • What's wrong with you lot? GET BACK TO WORK!!
  • @Jimmie_Robinson: yo dude, I got a quick question. Do you mind if I PM you? Cheers--
  • Albert the Alien - Hall Monitor script is finished. Now to work on the Albert the Alien - Going to the Movies script!<br>
  • I just got my copy of a cartooning-related project today, and I'm excited.  I'm one of the contributors to the Team Cul De Sac project raising money for Parkinson's Disease research and awareness, I drew a piece for the art fundraising/artbook.  I also contributed a written piece to a 'zine about favorite comics that's also fundraising for the project, called "Favorites".  You can find out more here;<br><br>http://teamculdesac.blogspot.com<br><br>It was only available at HeroesCon recently, but should be available to purchase online soon.  Anyway, it looks awesome, I'm stoked.<br>
  • good going!<br><br>
  • <div>Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, <i>Witch Doctor</i> #1 debuted today.</div><div><br></div><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5067/5886626958_e503dcfeb4.jpg"></div><div><br></div><div>So far the critical response has been great, and judging by Twitter at least, the reader response has also been great.  It's really, really neat to see this finally come to fruition.</div>
  • @brandonseifert - I've got that on hold at my LCS. Can't wait to check it out.<br><br><img src="http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b166/edbrisson/MB1-2.jpg"><br><br>For me, I've got the second printing of Murder Book Vol. 1 and first printing of Murder Book Vol. 2 in hand. Had them done up just before The Calgary Comic Expo, so it's been a couple weeks since getting them back.<br><br>Now that the Canada Post strike is over, I've finally been able to fill all the pre-orders.<br><br>Writing Vol. 3 right now.<br>
  • Ed, as a lover and writer of crime comics, I'm intrigued.tell us more.
  • Well, I'll let the comics do the talking! You can read them all online at <a href="http://www.murderbookcomic.com/">www.murderbookcomic.com</a>.<br><br>Basically, Murder Book is a collection of short crime stories, all written by my and drawn by others. All the stories are stand alone, but I'm slowly starting to weave a bigger story that's happening through the short stories. Being very cautious about it though, as I don't want to have it so that any of the shorts require you to read any of the others in order to enjoy them, but want to have this other story that slowly develops for those who do read the whole thing.<br><br>I'm hoping in the next year to also use some of the characters introduced in Murder Book in a larger story that I'll be pitching to publishers. <br>
  • nice idea and great looking cover art.<br><br>
  • Damn, @edbrisson, those look awesome and I need copies of them immediately. How can I get some?
  • Superb. Can't wait to read 'em!
