Hi, my name is Shawn Richison, which is my married name - a mash up with my wife's last name, since many (some? one?) of you will know me as Richter. I've worked with Justin and Dino (among others) in the past and I draw comics. Not as frequently or for as much pay as I would often like, but I can't seem to stop. Good to be here!
Alright Shawn!! Shawn and I have worked on a few projects together. We have an infrequently updated blog (which has actually seen a few new posts recently) right here: http://againstthewallproductionblog.blogspot.com/
Once upon a time, my boyfriend Jay and I joked about hyphenating or blending our last names, but decided that having matching genders and nearly-matching first names was already too confusing.
I have a friend who did the mashup as well. If his wife had taken his name it would have been the end of her family name. He would have taken her name, but it wasn't very easy on the ears, so they mashed them together and came up with something that sounds natural.
I would just make up a new name. Getting married is the only time you can easily legally change your name without jumping through too many hoops, so why not go crazy?
Can I just say, that I LOVE this forum? This is exactly the right kind of place for me, I think. Thanks again to @DinoCaruso for linking me in, and to everyone else for being here. Fan-tastic!
@RyanBurton 1) There's a limited amount of strife. 2) There are a ton of people I "know", or at least know of. 3) Everyone seems to be serious about the craft... but not so "pro" as to be untouchable. Without being offensive, I would characterize the overall feel of the group as "journeyman" rather than "superstar"... maybe I feel like we're all working around the same level, despite varying degrees of experience? I dunno, it just feels... comfortable.
Hey all, my name is Josh Trujillo and I'm a writer based in Hollywood, CA. I have never been published, but interned at both Dark Horse and Archaia on the publishing side. Marv Mann recommended the site to me, and I'm hoping to take full advantage of your experience.
Josh and I have a project in the works, and spent a few hours yesterday talking with him about another project he wants to do and how best to approach it. I made sure he knew that here was a great place to pick minds on everything from self-publishing, to conventioneering, to pitches, to general encouragement.
Just found out about this new forum (saw Jason and Tim 12s mentioning it on facebook). My name is Michael L. Peters, but I sign my art mlpeters and that's also my website (with a "dot com" added), so it's my all-purpose username.
I've written and drawn and occasionally painted stuff for Heavy Metal and Negative Burn (The Desperado incarnation) and drawn an issue or two for Image (Shadowline) and Caliber.
I've just finished writing and drawing Crescent City Magick (and nearing completion of lettering the last issue), a four issue mini-series that I'd really like to be the first of many... as of yet, still looking for a publisher and for paying gigs to help me keep on keeping on.
McCullers of the Derek told me back at SDCC that I needed to sign up for this, and I've just now gotten around to doing so. Who knows the frequency with which I'll stick my head in and/or say hello, but at least I registered. Known mostly for Comic Book Tattoo, which got me an Eisner, a Harvey, and a nom for the British Fantasy Award. Doing 16 different project now, luckily only two of which I'm doing more that 'cat wrangling', and only one where I actually doing 'heavy lifting' Lot of NDA-I-can't-talk-about-shit until at least November... which hopefully will be well worth it.

@Matt_Fox - your inks are insane. Fucking rad, really.

I suspect everyone will be doing it soon...
Sadly, my last name doesn't work well with any others that aren't Spanish.
