Did some body weight exercises the other night. Trainer tonight. I gotta use up these sessions before April, and I'm moving away at the end of the month....hopefully there's an x-sport near by new house!
I've been pretty good the last couple weeks getting to the gym. Not quite every day, but most afternoons. After all, I have the time and I need the routine. I even went on New Year's Day afternoon, assuming that they'd be open to accommodate resolution-makers... but they weren't. My typical routine has been an hour walking on the treadmill, which seems to be enough to leave me feeling tired for the rest of the day, so I haven't been pushing for more like I probably should.
Trainer last night. He keeps trying to get me to do bottom's up presses, which are very difficult for me. Not because I can't lift the weight (it's only 16-20 kg), but because it keeps slipping. He thinks it's a grip strength issue, but I think I need chalk - which the gym won't allow (allergies, and messes, I'm sure).
Anyone have any good grip-strength enhancing exercises?
I've decided that doing 30 push-ups and then holding the last one for 30 seconds (after 4 sets of this) is hell. Especially if followed by pull-ups AND chin-ups with the same approach.
One of my friends is doing some sort of 30 day challenge so I was Googling to see if it was part of some new fad when I came across the 21 day fix.
I looked at it and realised that it was something that I was mostly doing anyway (with the exception of those protein drinks, you can't pay me enough money to drink a protein drink)
So I'll start the workout next week and then start looking at what foods I'm eating and make some changes. Eating more fruits and vegetables is what I wanted to do *anyway* so this works out just fine for me.
I just did some measurements....things are much worse than I thought. I am going to take them one more time on Monday but this definitely strengthens my resolve to do this 21 day challenge. I'm going to be starting the full challenge on Monday including the portion control.
I've been pretty successful at making a habit of going to the Y every day, usually getting 3-4 miles on the treadmill. One way I keep track of this is by the fact that I hardly ever use the shower at home: I get my daily soap-scrub at the gym.
One thing that's odd is that I haven't seen any impact on my weight, which has remained pretty constant at 200lbs give or take a few pounds. Maybe I've been replacing fat with muscle. Maybe being home all day has let me graze enough to compensate for the exercise. But I feel like I'm getting more fit, so I'm not fretting over it.
Meeting with a new trainer at a new gym, since we just moved to the burbs. The new gym has a pool, AND a climbing wall! Heck yeah I want to get certified on that thing so I can climb again. I haven't climbed since college.
So my new trainer and I are going to get along swimmingly. He's a Polish dude who loves binge watching TV. We're both super excited for Daredevil season 2 in a few weeks. Gives us something to talk about while he's kicking my ass. :P
I haven't posted in this section in forever. But, now that I think that I may have hit an exercise plateau, it's time to start writing here again.
Once I'm done my writing challenge, I will start going to the gym again, in addition to my morning exercising. In the meantime, starting next week, I'm going to try to get to the gym at least once or twice a week as well.
My morning exercising consisting of at least a half hour walk with the occasional free weight reps on alternating upper and lower body. If nothing else, I have to put more of an emphasis on the weights now.
My new (since July) apartment complex has a gym with free weights, elipticals, a recumbent cycle and treadmills. I've ignored it, because I hate working out. Except my daughter visited me last weekend and had to work out as part of a PE class assignment, so I worked out with her.
I've worked out four of the last eight days. for 20-30 minutes a piece.
I hate it, but I'm concerned about my weight and arterial disease and cancer. So, I'm gonna try to do this.
One of the keys (for me) is to find something to distract from the actual working-out part, so I don't get bored. Facebook, actual books, and unobtrusively paying inappropriate attention to selected other people in the gym are some of the methods I use.
So, I did half a ju jutsu camp yesterday. Couldn't stay for the second day because it was adjunct to a work trip and I had to fly back home last night.
2 years ago I did both days of the camp, which included competitive sparring (not present in this year's program)and I didn't feel this bad. My weight is down, my fitness is down, and I feel like 66kgs (145lbs) of hamburger.
I know I'm not going ot beable to get backint he gym any day soon but I should at least start running again.
My friend has started bringing me to aquafit classes with her, twice a week. I'm trying to fit everything into this new schedule now. But I am feeling more in shape already!
I'm int he worst shape I have been in for fifteen years. I quit the gym when I injured by arm two years ago and I basically stopped running when Akira was born. I've been trying to keep up ju jutsu and I usually mange at least one session a week, but it's not enough. I spend all day and night in front of the computer and I already have back problems. I haven't put on weight but I've just grown soft and unfit.
So over the last couple of weeks I've made a concerted effort to get out and do something most days. Just half an hour I go for a run or I jog around the local soccer field where they have an outdoor fitness circuit, where I do chinups, dips and pushups. I continue to do crunches on the Swiss ball every night.
Just a couple of weeks and I have put back on a bit of muscle and some fitness. Nowhere near what it was, but I feel and look stronger, more alert, and more energetic. And my appetite has returned. Just getting out in the sun makes a big difference.
I knew the benefits, but it's just been difficult with all the stress to convince myself to take the time. I'm going to continue to enjoy this while the summer is running long.
