Thanks @BrandonSeifert - I forgot to pre-request it, but I'll have my LCS add it to my pull list. I only go there once a month usually, so I'm bad about stuff like that.
Doing the day job work and sleeping has been taking up most of my time still. But managed to letter and post pages of Love is in the Blood and Perfect Agent this week so there is some comic work going on.
Two anthology submissions in the space of twelve hours yesterday followed by outlining on Project X. I'm 90% done on the outlining. It's been a hard slog but worth it.
My productivity will also take a nose dive over the weekend as I attend Bristol Comic Expo. Yay networking.
Finished the first ep script (if you can call it that) for Tom Bonin's thing. I think it came out well--historically accurate, introduces some of the fantasy elements, and does some good setup for the final ep.
Bits and pieces of other things, swinging back into a little prose again--it's been a bit of a rush today. Tomorrow I'm off to Korea for four days and I should be able to read email, but I don't know if I'll have the opportunity to respond to anything.
Should be back Wendesnday night or Thursday, Eastern Hemisphere time.
Drowning under deadlines and dying from con crud contracted while at TCAF. I've got a rib breaking cough, and a head cold that makes my eyeballs feel like they may explode.
Managed to complete lettering on a 200 page book today and am jumping on another 400 pager immediately. Taking the weekend off from manga to complete 6 other indie projects by this Sunday (thankfully, some are only 5 page pitches).
Been thinking more and more about taking a month off from lettering to concentrate on writing. Feel like I'm getting constantly pulled away from it.
@pjperez — Sweet! Please do pre-order it, if for no other reason than so you make sure you get a copy — we are, of course, shooting for a sold-out print run, which is going to mean some scarcity for a bit.
Started concept work last night for 900 Days in Leningrad. I think I figured out what I'm going to do with the covers and I believe I've solidified the art process I'm going to use and how I'm going to letter it. Now I just gotta nail down the art style I want to use.
I'm doing lettering edits for the second issue of Luther Strode. The thing that's awesome, and this doesn't always happen, is that I'm genuinely having fun reading my own script. I realize it was me what wrote it, but some of the dialogue is really damn funny.
I actually made a conscious choice here to take a tack inspired by Justified and, believe it or not, Dawson's Creek; the dialogue isn't particularly realistic, but it is clever and true to the characters. Or at least, I hope so.
Inking was getting frustrating today, so I quit. No point in trying anymore in my current condition. I did some rough layouts for another story instead. I won't be Doing The Work for for the immediate future, because tomorrow I have neck surgery to fix a pinched nerve that runs down to the fingers on my drawing hand. (Oh, no serious symptoms... just alternating periods of pain, numbness, and bad coordination. ) I'll be in a neck brace and under "limited activity" orders from the doc, at least for a couple weeks. I'll probably be able to resume writing in a few days or so (pain/meds permitting) but drawing will take longer. Do The Recovery is my motto, for now.
Yesterday my EMT friend and I went to a lecture about what epidemiologists would make of a zombie apocalypse. I'm definitely counting that as research.
Today I turned in an issue solicit, worked on a couple of email interviews, and did some plot brainstorming.
Yesterday, I finished my two webcomics for today, including the super-secret one from the other day. It was a surprise gift (hence the secrecy) for a German fellow webcomicker who had made a comic about the birth of his first child. The child's been out for a while, but the comic only just ended. A couple of us colleagues celebrated it today by posting images of us visiting the new family.
The other one is a one-pger I pencilled over the week and scanned, inked and texted yesterday, FRANKENBIKE.
After that, I was too exhausted to brag post about it here, so I'm doing it now.
Today, apart from promoting today's comics and stuff like that, I translated FRANKENBIKE and Detective Gaijin, the next German Conny Van Ehlsing story. (Almost done except for the logo.) Thinking about adding a cover/plug page to this one, too, even though it's only a three-pager. Maybe rip off a Detective Conan title.
I also cleaned up a very nice con sketch of Conny and Gaijin that I keep thinking I already scanned last year but could never find, so I scanned it yesterday along with the other thing. This one's for the update after Detective Gaijin (in English: After something else). All of this gives me the fluffy feeling of not needing to worry about updates for that one, at least.
Yesterday I didn't draw anything and I didn't write anything. Just laid around and took a lot of drugs. But today I doodled a little to see how it felt (OK, but still shaky), and I looked through the JAQrabbit scripts which are done but haven't been illustrated (or started) yet, with a view toward hooking them up with artists.
I made a new sketch/work book specifically for Leningrad tonight. I sat down with a new large moleskin and pasted in pictures of different buildings/people/military equipment so I have constant reference of the who and what of the time period. I'll work up all my character designs and outlines using the photos as reference. I've never used anything like this before for a story but this is the first time where I really have to pay attention to setting accuracy in order to get the feel right. We'll see how that works out
** Prepping for a local convention this weekend (Big Wow in San Jose, Ca.)
** Pencils & Inks on Bomb Queen One-shot (which is DUE in two weeks.... or it is cancelled).
Needless to say, I'm staying up late nowadays... again.
It didn't help that I lost last week because my apartment had to be inspected by the city inspector since my unit was declared an illegal building conversion.
Thus, technically... I was homeless for a few days until the City official gave it a seal of approval. However, that's because I MOVED everything out of the unit that looked habitable which gave the illusion that the unit was only used for *storage*. Then this week (after the ruse) I moved back into the house. So really, it was two weeks lost. Thank you very fucking much, city official.
Though, I should say... my landlord skipping various code requirements didn't help, either.
If I had known that when I moved in things could have been different.

Finished the revisions for the nine pager. That was draft two. Dialogue was mostly okay, but I had to work on the caption/narration.

Daydreaming about ACen, which is just six days away.
