@Jimmie_Robinson My shop sold out of Five Weapons (I think my copy was the last shelf one) and the manager was a little concerned about the availability of reordering. Is that going to be a problem, from what you know?
@GMatias - I don't know. It's all a toss up. No publisher likes to go back and reprint more copies (when they could have done so in the first place and save money).
It might bode well for the trade paperback. Because some folks will wait for the collection if they can't get all the issues. It also signals to the retailers that people will want the book so they will order higher on the trade.
It might also help the digital sales. Some folks will resort to a digital copy (though usually the two audiences don't cross over as much). But the shortage might help in that regard. I will say... officially... my royalty checks from digital have always beat the print sales. However, I admit that my series Bomb Queen is clocking over 20+ issues / specials. So *combined* they gather some coin every quarter.
We will see how my *new* series stacks up working on its own. Bomb Queen has a readership and I'm not sure how many will follow to Five Weapons... which is a completely different beast.
@Jimmie_Robinson I got my copy digitally - and you're saying that your digital royalties are always higher than your print sales royalties? I would have thought it would be reversed.
@Jimmie_Robinson I think the nice thing about Five Weapons being a completely different beast is that people who would have never bought Bomb Queen (sorry, me among them) will be buying Five Weapons (me!). Just based on the cover/pitch alone, it's a great concept AND doesn't look anything like Bomb Queen even if anyone had preconceived notions of what a "Jimmie Robinson comic" is.
Not quite "solicited" exactly, but the Kickstarter campaign has launched to fund the publication of a book I'm going to be in. (For reals: my name is listed as a contributor and everything! And I am in the story!) It's the book I've been jabbering about working on the past few weeks: Anything That Loves, an anthology of comics dealing with the B and T in LGBT.
It'll be regular-for-sale starting at Sandy Eggo, but as is typical for Kickstarter campaigns, you can pre-order a copy by making a donation now. Proceeds from sales go to Prism Comics, the organization that's been doing LGBT awareness work in the comics field since forever. And if the KS campaign brings in enough money, the cartoonists donating their work to the book might actually get paid a little.
Oh, and I will be doing the art for a backup feature in Five Ghosts, starting with issue #2, out this week. The backup is called Intellectual Property and it is written by Matthew Rosenberg and Patrick Kindlon, with additional art by Shakey Kane and colours by Sloane Leong.
@JasonCopland That looks awesome! I'm glad you've already broke your minimum goal. I'm going to throw in for it, but just need to figure out how much...

Just picked up Five Weapons #1. Looking forward to #2.
Awesome that last week was Sequential week at the comic shop! I knew from our Warren Ellis Board days that you were a talented bunch.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to drawing my piece, or the book will have a 7-page hole in it.
Michael May and I are also currently doing a Kickstarter for the Kill All Monsters trade here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1854372978/kill-all-monsters-volume-1-ruins-of-paris
