The Other Side: A Queer Paranormal Romance Anthology!
The Other Side is a black and white comic anthology debuting in the spring of 2016. Stories in The Other Side will be everything from spooky to funny, sweet to melancholy, but all of them will be about queer paranormal romance! We’re showcasing stories that explore love, spectres, and underrepresented identities. We’re soliciting proposals for stories to add to the lineup soon!
Content Basics
CONTENT GUIDELINES:
We’re looking for queer romance stories with an element of the paranormal: ghosts, spooks, spirits, haunts, etc. Serious, funny, happy, sad — we want all kind of stories as long as they fit the theme. Take it anywhere; the more creative, the better. Stories should be aimed at a YA audience, so please keep everything PG-13: no explicit gore, sex, etc.
CONTENT SUGGESTIONS: Things we would love to see!
Stories with unusual, surprising takes on the paranormal
Stories with a variety of kinds of romance: Not just about “falling in love,” but mid-relationship stories, unrequited attraction stories, breakup stories, etc., too!
Stories about characters who are often underrepresented in queer fiction: people who are trans, nonbinary, asexual, disabled, nonwhite, etc.
CONTENT RESTRICTIONS: Things that aren’t for us!
Stories with stock characters or tropes from horror movies or books.
Stories with copyrighted content that doesn’t belong to you (no fancomics!)
Stories that treat their queer characters in a stereotypical, offensive or objectified way.
Stories featuring abuse or stories primarily about discrimination or coming out.
COMIC GUIDELINES

Black and white
Standard American graphic novel page size (6.625” × 10.25”)
Sorry, no submissions from anyone under 18

Creator Payment and Rights
RATES:
The Other Side will pay $50/page for each story it accepts, plus a Kickstarter bonus should the book be overfunded. Contributors are also entitled to 5 contributors copies and the ability to buy copies of the book at 50% off the cover price for as long as it is in print. Payment will be made at the end of the Kickstarter, which is estimated as Spring 2016.
RIGHTS:
If your story is accepted, you will cede The Other Side first exclusive worldwide rights to your story for a full calendar year from date of publication, and non-exclusive worldwide reprint rights in perpetuity. Everything else—intellectual property rights and trademarks, non-publishing licensing rights, etc.—remains with the creators.
Twenty2Six Books Looking For Artists and Collaborators
I am relaunching my publishing company Twenty2Six Books and I am looking for two things: First, artists to collaborate on main titles of the initial line up. You will be credited as co-creator on the title and receive an equal share of any profits on the back end. Second, creators to contribute to my horror themed anthology title, EXPLODED VIEW. Submissions should be no longer than 8 pages and complete. There is no pay for this option but contributors will receive copies of the issue in which they appear. If you are interested in the first option, please send a few samples of your work to twenty2six@gmail.com. If you are interested in the second option, please go tothewriteguyblog.wordpress.com for more information. Any work you submit is YOUR work. You will retain all rights. The goal here is to build a community that focuses more on exposure than fame and fortune, although no doubt some of you will achieve that as well. Looking forward to hearing from you folks. Let's have some fun.
Dino: Good to see Gisele getting work! She was co-presenting a talk at last week's Ottawa Independent Writers meeting on webcomics and I didn't know about this.
GR1ND is seeking comic creators for Street Comix, a new imprint bringing the best of urban fiction, street lit, and true-crime to the world of comics. Creator must be able to work professionally and communicate as part of a team.
Preference will be given to creators who have an established track record, especially with graphic novel length works.
We are especially interested in working with black comic creators, though this is not required for consideration.

For consideration, send a link to an online gallery of your work to anthony.mathenia@gmail.com with “STREET COMIX CALL” in the subject line. Be sure to include a short bio including past published comic work. Also make it clear what role(s) you are looking to fill.
Genre mashup, inspired by a song title (e.g. Diary of Jane about alien zombies, a fairytale apocalypse titled Iridescent, etc.), no more than 1000 words. It must be a complete, stand-alone story with a unique twist. Make us go, “hmmm…”
Complete 4-page comics, art included, also inspired by a song title. We like dark stories with a whimsical twist (e.g. Tim Burton or Neil Gaiman). Any style is accepted. We’re fans of manga, superhero, even stick figures. Wow us with your originality.

Here are their details.
SUBMISSIONS
Ink and Drink Comics Submission Policy
Ink and Drink Comics does not take any unsolicited submissions of any kind. Any submission sent to us unsolicited will not be read. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience.
Ink and Drink Comics is a collective of writers and artists and we only accept fully formed story submissions for our anthologies. That said, if you'd like to contribute to one of our future anthologies, please send us an email with links to either a website or portfolio of previously published work. We are always on the look out for new talent and would love to welcome any aspiring writers and artists to the Ink and Drink fold. If you are a writer and your work cuts the muster, we may be able to put you in touch with an Ink and Drink artist. Same goes for artists.
We publish two anthologies per year and one minicomic every year, and we adhere to very tight deadlines. If you are interested in contributing, you'll need to deliver work in a timely manner that is of professional quality.
Each anthology contribution is reviewed by our Editorial Council and is subject to their approval.
Please note that Ink and Drink Comics does not pay our contributors, nor do we charge money for admission into the anthologies. Further details of the submission and publication process will be disclosed after the portfolio review is completed.
Ink and Drink Comics is based in St. Louis, MO, and while being local to the St. Louis area is not a requirement, it is preferred as a big part of the planning for each anthology takes place at our "Ink and Drink" sessions, which are held monthly in the University City area.
Comments
I remember distinctly the look of disappointment on the editor's face when he learned that my entry fell into the latter category.
They promised to respond to every submission. I'm still waiting.
